Michael Baker, Jr.,
founder and Chairman of the Board of the international engineering
firm bearing his name, is a descendant of one of the first families
to settle in Beaver County. A graduate of The Pennsylvania State
University, he is a registered professional engineer in 48 states,
the District of Columbia, the Canal Zone, and eight provinces
of Canada. President of the State Registration Board for Professional
Engineers, he has been awarded many honorary doctorates and is
a trustee and President of the Board of the Pennsylvania State
University. Over the past 35 years, military work, public works
in Saudi Arabia, South America, Asia and Europe, and service to
government in this country, have gained his firm widespread recognition.
His firm has designed the Beaver Valley Expressway, East Rochester-
Monaca, Vanport, and Shippingport bridges and many water supply
and pollution control plants in the county. The engineering survey
and design service for the Alaskan Pipeline is the largest assignment
in the company's history.
